About These Indoor Air Sensors

What are these devices?

These devices are Attune indoor air monitoring sensors. They routinely measure several environmental conditions, including:

  • Temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Airborne particles, such as dust

These measurements help UGA better understand indoor air conditions and how they vary throughout the day and over time.

Where are they located?

Five sensors are currently installed in the i-STEM facilities:

  • Three sensors in I-STEM 1
  • Two sensors in I-STEM 2

These sensors are temporarily placed in selected locations to collect representative data. They may periodically be relocated within the same building or moved to other buildings as monitoring needs change.

How do they work?

Each sensor transmits environmental data to a secure dashboard managed by UGA’s Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Safety (IHOS) office, part of Environmental Safety, Risk and Resiliency.

IHOS staff use the data to review current conditions, evaluate trends, and support routine assessments of building ventilation performance.

Why is UGA monitoring these conditions?

Laboratory teaching and research buildings use specialized ventilation and exhaust systems to maintain appropriate indoor conditions and support research activities.

Environmental Safety, Risk and Resiliency periodically evaluates indoor air conditions and the performance of these systems. Data from the Attune sensors supplement other routine evaluations conducted by IHOS staff.

Do the sensors record audio or video?

No. The sensors do not contain cameras or microphones and do not record audio or video.
