Underground Storage Tanks (USTS) and Aboveground Storage Tanks (ASTS)

The University of Georgia has several facilities, which use USTs and/or ASTs. These storage tanks are managed under the environmental compliance office’s supervision along with guidance and assistance from GEFA.

Any UST questions about program compliance, certification, or training should be directed to UGA's Environmental Safety Division (706-542-5801) or GEFA (Georgia Environmental Finance Authority)

Summary listing of all documents required in the Green Binder:

  • 36 Months of fuel invoices indicating 00.0075 GUST Fee and displaying highlighted area where test was conducted (name of location where fuel was delivered), invoice date, Gust Fee amount and type of fuel purchased (diesel and/or unleaded)
  • 36 Months of passing leak detection test copied to the EPD Monthly Monitoring Form displaying highlighted area where test was conducted, date, type of product and passing
  • 3 Years of annual inspections
  • 3 Years of sensor and alarm reports (In 2013, each location started receiving a sensor and alarm report once a year with the annual inspection)
  • Monthly equipment inspection checklist (signed & dated by operator)
  • Leak line detection test (pressurized piping systems)
  • Repairs
  • Monthly Walk-Through Inspection Checklist

All locations with dispenser/pumps must have a large sign posted with the following wordage:

  • Shut Off Power
  • Alert/Evacuate Site Personnel
  • Call Emergency Responders
    • Give your name and detailed location info
    • Give detailed description of emergency
  • Call/Report incident to your HQ
  • Call GEFA to report incident
