Personal Protective Equipment

IOHS is responsible for training and ensuring proper selection of personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.

University employees, other than those in the Facilities Management Division must receive training through IOHS prior to beginning a job that requires the use of personal protective equipment.  This is especially important should an employee need to use a respirator.

Employees must be trained, medically qualified and properly fit tested before being issued any type of respiratory protection device, including powered, air-purifying respirators.  Employees will not be trained and authorized to use respiratory protection, if required by their job task(s) without first having passed a medical exam performed by a licensed health care professional (LHCP).  Click below for the OSHA-required medical questionnaire.
